AES, by Evil Gima, Re-Released on Bandcamp

Let’s keep this re-releases going!

Today's re-release is AES by Evil Gima. Evil Gima is a catch-all moniker for my ambient, dark, and experimental music collages. They tend to be great for staring out into space and relaxing into the textures.

After I moved to Santa Fe, NM, I was really hit hard by the epic cloud formations, the beautiful art, and also the cultural and historical amnesia. Read about the history of the city, and you'll be quietly freaked out.

Anyhow, AES always reminds me of that time of the ceaselessly changing skies of New Mexico.

I've also included the full liner notes of the record AND five Ableton Live screenshots of the projects. Perhaps you musicians would like that?

Need a little levity? Try watching Crisp Lips. Guaranteed to get you out of your COVID19 funk

Here in it’s full glory: Crisp Lips!

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Crisp Lips is an absurdist comedy written and directed by Madison Bounds. Crisp Lips is the tale of when a cold sore pandemic sends the employees of a restaurant into inescapable (and hilarious) chaos. Timely and fun, the film shows what happens when we're all stuck inside our house, unable to leave (like the entirety of 2020).

Crisp Lips (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Re-Released on Bandcamp (with tons of bonus items)

We’re keeping the weekly re-releases going! This week’s rerelease is the soundtrack to the fantastically awkward and super-low budget film Crisp Lips, done by my good friend Madison Bounds of Blank Factory.

Included in this release are 11 bonus tracks and the movie poster for the movie. Best of all, I’ve decided to make the album $6.94, which is less expensive than is iTunes, BTW. This is why I love Bandcamp. I love including interesting tidbits you can’t really get anywhere else.

Oh, and there’s more!

On Wednesday at 6:45 PM, you can watch the full movie Crisp Lips, start to finish, if you choose! Beware, it’s good and awkward and silly and partially just strange! Madison certainly did a great job on his first film, and he’s definitely getting better as a filmmaker.

Oh, and there’s still more!

Be sure to check out the clips coming out each week on YouTube on Wednesdays. Crisp Lips is full of interesting little moments. I’ll be posting each of them as they come out.

The Mumbler (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Now Available On Bandcamp

The Mumbler is a short film where mumblers are quarantined to an industrial treatment center. The film follows the story of Willow, a young woman with a decimated speech enhancing device struggling to get a replacement. The Mumbler was shot in January of 2019 and completed in summer 2019.

The Mumbler’s music takes the perspective of the main character, Willow, a smart young woman who feels suppressed by others because of her inability to communicate. Her experience is not far away from 18th-century kings and queens who were often harassed and muted by court intrigue. By using classical period music as a source, the score encapsulates the frustration that Willow feels while at the same time keeping the film light and comedic in feel.

The Mumbler (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is now available on Bandcamp. Awesome, right?

Songs For Children by The Sidekick Rulz Now Available!

A Message From The Sidekick:

"My older brother Dave Wirth is such an insufferable know-it-all. I swear, he's such a loser. He's got you fooled! Don't believe a word he says! He's a loser face who doesn't know anything at all! He's a nerdfacelooserbrainstupdhead!!!1 What a butthead! What an annoying soccer jock! He thinks he's god's gift to music and he's not!!!!  HAHAHAHAHA!!!! ahshdfhdjhhfjdhfa;wnerioqw93ngnsd!!!! What a stupid!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

Ahem, okay, this is why my little brother doesn't get to use my computer. I took his computer away from him long ago so that he doesn't put this dribble out there and clog up the internet. This is what I get for being generous and putting his music out...

The world most strange mashup of children's melodies and metal is out today...

The Sidekick’s new record Songs For Children is probably the wildest, most kinetic, most joyful, most demanding, most insane album of 2020, if not the decade

Songs For Children mashes up metal, IDM, experimental, jungle electronica, and childrens melodies all into one weirdly intense experience. Seriously. It’s like Melt Banana and Messugah and Judy Garland got into a fight armed to the teeth with switchblades and there is blood everywhere.

Don’t judge this book by it’s cover: Songs For Children is without a doubt the most demented album you will ever hear.

New Perspectives Change Everything
Leland Melvin, NASA Astronaut

Leland Melvin, NASA Astronaut

Astronaut Leland Melvin recently talked about how his career could have been cut short from a single traffic stop. Thankfully that didn’t happen. Melvin has a storied career, from the NFL to NASA.

Leland Melvin’s experience as an astronaut on the International Space Station illustrates that when we consider a radically different perspective, our mindsets have to change. There’s no way we could stay the same.

From the article:

Melvin said his "aha" moment in space came unexpectedly. He anticipated it would happen as he helped install the European Space Agency's Columbus Laboratory on the International Space Station in 2008.

But it wasn't until NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson invited Melvin over to the Russian segment of the station to share a meal. The crew included astronauts with Russian, French, German, African American and Asian American backgrounds and was hosted by Whitson -- the first female commander of the space station, Melvin said.

"We were breaking bread at 17,500 miles per hour, going around the planet every 90 minutes. And that was when my head exploded, and I had this epiphany about our planet and looking back at it, getting this thing called the orbital perspective."

It's something astronauts gain as they gaze down at our planet as a whole.

"I think we as a civilization need to take that thing that we get in space as astronauts," he said. "And we know that if we don't work together as a team, and we were one of the most diverse teams in space, then we (would) perish."

Working together is the only way Melvin thinks humanity can survive on this planet, get back to the moon and get to Mars.

"The way we do it is with the right perspective. And we bring this perspective home from space, to go back to space as a civilization of diverse people," he said. "It's perspective together, that we work together, we live together, and we change the universe together."

I think we could all be better people if we just took a bit more time to consider perspectives that may challenge us. Why not?

Songs For Children by The Sidekick Rulz is ready for pre-order!

What’s the music like?!?

Songs For Children mashes up metal, IDM, experimental, jungle electronica, and childrens melodies all into one weirdly intense experience. Seriously. It’s like Melt Banana and Messugah and Judy Garland got into a massive fight involving switchblades and there is blood and body parts everywhere.

Don’t judge this book by it’s cover: Songs For Children is without a doubt the most demented album you will ever hear.

Who is The Sidekick Rulz?

According to the Austin Museum of Digital Art, this is who The Sidekick Rulz is:

Who’s inside the costume? Who’s behind the mask? And why is he dancing around like your little brother jacked up on too much soda pop? Nobody knows who The Sidekick is; he prefers to remain anonymous, an enigma. Austin, Texas is his home base - that’s all we know for certain. His music could either be the soundtrack to an 8-bit video game or they could be playing on a boom box in a home video of people smoking crack.

The Sidekick’s music is the soundtrack to your favorite 8-bit video game, built from dreams, humor, and a pixel smashing vitality. His EM Records debut album, “SAGA!…the story of a boy and his computer,” is an aural reminder of a time when Super Mario ruled the screen, electronic music was the sound your Nintendo made.

The Sidekick’s new record Songs For Children is probably the wildest, most kinetic, most joyful, most demanding, most insane album of 2020, if not the decade, and it can be all yours on September 9th.

Look what I can do!

I was talking to a friend of mine recently, and I asked him for a little advice. He’s really good at giving hard truths. He doesn’t hold back. Everyone needs a friend who doesn’t fuck around. This friend is also an incredible actor and knows the landscape of the entertainment business, how people are in it.

I lamented that I would receive news from people I knew in the business, what they’re doing, how cool it was that they created this or that, name drop name drop name drop, what projects are coming up for them, etc. It always seemed like these statements, these imperatives, were all to get me check out what they’re doing and see how cool it was and congratulate them. Something bugged me, so I asked my friend for a good hard truth.

My friend said this: “It’s not a bad thing to expect a friend to ask you how you’re doing. If they don’t, are you sure they’re your friend?”

And then he sent me this video:

I hadn’t laughed that hard in a long time… much needed!
